Gear Break: Mayday – Campagnolo Record 13, PNS Escapism SS26, Hutchinson Gravel Range, Santini x Eroica, Fizik TONES, Felt Breed

It’s Mayday at Gear Break. The showers are subsiding, the Mayflowers are coming out, and gravel continues its pivot from relaxed adventure to high-wattage racing. Campagnolo’s Record 13 brings wireless 13-speed tech to the masses, while Felt’s sub-1kg Breed frame and Hutchinson’s Touareg Race tires prove that road-level aero and weight standards are the new off-road benchmark. On the clothing side, this week, we’ve got Pas Normal’s competition-focused Escapism kits to Fizik’s seasonal TONES and Santini’s performance-wool Eroica line. High-style meets high-performance.

Campagnolo Record 13

13-speeds for the masses

There comes a moment when an innovation stops being a milestone and becomes a standard. That moment has arrived – introducing the new Campagnolo Record 13 groupset. With Record 13, the prestigious Italian manufacturer opens a new chapter in its evolution and expands the 13-speed platform to an even broader range of cyclists.

Campagnolo Record 13 builds on the success of Super Record 13, the world’s first wireless 2×13-speed platform and which set a new benchmark as the fastest drivetrain on the market.

Geometry, architecture and functionality now share a common design foundation across Record and Super Record, reflecting a new, simplified approach for Campagnolo. This ensures full component compatibility, greater system coherence, and most importantly, the same shifting speed.

The differences are focused on material selection and finishes, enabling a new entry point into the platform without compromising performance. The result is just 208g to 342g additional weight depending on the discipline from Super Record to Record 13.

3 disciplines, 5 configurations, 1 vision

With the simultaneous launch of all configurations on April 29, 2026, Campagnolo presents for the first time the complete Record 13 platform in its entirety.

Five variants covering every dimension of the drop-bar world and its many interpretations:

  • Record 2×13 Road – 2,783g
  • Record X 1×13 Gravel (specific rear derailleur with Nano Clutch. Compatible with 42/48 T cassette) – 2,777g
  • Record 1×13 Road (rear derailleur with Nano Clutch for both road and off-road. Till 36 T cassette) – 2,656g
  • Record 2×13 All Road – 2,806g (rear derailleur with Nano Clutch for both road and off-road. Till 36 T cassette)
  • Record X 1×13 Road (specific rear derailleur with Nano Clutch. Compatible with 42/48 cassette) – 2,820g

Made in Europe, with pride

Like every Campagnolo groupset, Record 13 is manufactured in-house in Italy. This is not a statement of principle, but a strategic choice that ensures full control over the entire production process within Campagnolo’s facilities. This optimisation has allowed for competitive price positioning without compromising Campagnolo’s signature commitment to quality.

Campagnolo Product & Marketing Team, sez: “Record 13 transforms a technical breakthrough into a structured market offering, designed to mark a further shift forward in performance. Record 13 and Super Record 13 share the same platform, the same architecture, the same origin. They are cut from the same stone. Record 13 is a decision, not a compromise, but a deliberate expression of engineering intelligence. Designed for cycling, however you ride.
“It was created to bring this vision to a broader scale, while preserving the core principles that define the platform: shifting speed, braking control, electronic integration, and build quality.”

Same top-tier performance, a confirmed benchmark

Record 13 inherits the drivetrain kinematics of Super Record 13: the same optimized chain path across the gear range, and the same shifting speed that already put Super Record 13 ahead of the pack.

The Record 13 derailleur pairs carbon fiber-reinforced polyamide upper and lower bodies with a completely redesigned internal steel cage to deliver exceptional lightness, strength, and reliability. Additionally, its 14-tooth narrow-wide pulleys feature stainless steel bearings to ensure a quiet, precise, and durable drivetrain.

Meanwhile the Record X gravel derailleur features a Nano Clutch and a long cage, enabling compatibility with cassettes up to 48 teeth, along with a 12+16 tooth pulley configuration.

Cassette: more choice, same refined progression

The Record 13 cassette builds on the Super Record structure, confirming the gear progression specifically developed for 13-speed riding: closely spaced ratios that allow riders to consistently find the ideal cadence, with a seamless progression that is felt in every corner, on every straight, and under every effort.

Available configurations include 10-33 and 11-36 for road use (compatible with derailleurs with and without Nano Clutch), and 10-48 for use with the X derailleur in its gravel configuration.

The dedicated 13-speed cassette design features an initial section with a Black Chrome finish, while the final sprocket block is finished in Satin Black-a zinc and silicon-based treatment with a black coating to enhance resistance to wear. A laser-etched texture on the black base gives the cassette a distinctive identity, both technically and aesthetically.

Full compatibility is ensured with all Super Record 13 cassettes, including Ultra versions.

Crankset: the same platform, broader access

Record 13 chainrings are shared with Super Record 13, offering the same seven combinations for 2x (45/29, 48/32, 50/34, 52/36, 53/39, 54/39, 55/39) and eight aero options for 1x configurations (38, 40, 42, 44, 46, 48, 50, 52). Campagnolo Ultra carbon fiber chainrings are compatible across both platforms.

The key difference compared to Super Record lies in the axle, which is made of stainless steel rather than titanium. The higher density of steel has been effectively mitigated through advanced stress analysis across a wide range of riding conditions, allowing for reduced cross-sections and a controlled weight increase.

The only other structural distinction is found in the crank arm. In the Super Record version, the less stressed area is hollowed out within the carbon structure. In the Record version it is replaced with a very low-density technopolymer, maintaining excellent levels of lightness and stiffness.

Crank lengths are available in 165, 170, and 172.5 mm.

The crankset is also available with an integrated power meter. Campagnolo derived the Record PWM from the Super Record HPPM. The new power meter uses simplified electronics while maintaining an accuracy of ±2%.

Ergopower: the same ergonomic revolution, identical functionality

The design of the Record 13 Ergopower maintains the same functional architecture as Super Record: internal Thumb Shifter, Shift Lever, Mode Button, Smart Button, and status LED. Carrying over the same ergonomics redesigned in 2025, it gives full access to all functions from any hand position on the handlebar.

Record 13 Ergopower stands out with new control covers featuring a contrasting matte/gloss finish that enhances aesthetics while ensuring excellent grip. The hydraulic system remains unchanged from Super Record, with optimized routing and the same ease of installation.

Ergopower controls from the 13 Platform are also compatible with the previous Super Record 12 WRL system.

Braking: powerful and modular, as always

Braking has always been one of Campagnolo’s defining elements. The Record 13 caliper retains the same body as Super Record, delivering the same modulation and braking power that have made it a benchmark in the industry. The only difference lies in the new gloss/matte finish, introducing a refreshed visual identity with the Campagnolo winged logo. Compatible with 140 mm and 160 mm rotors (with the 160 mm adapter included with the front brake or available separately).

Organic pads come as standard; sintered pads are available as an option, offering durability of up to approximately 10,000 km in dry road conditions, and developed for gravel use and wet conditions.

Battery: 750 km. Charge anywhere, without compromise.

The Record 13 battery is identical to that of Super Record: 750 km of range on a full charge,
magnetic quick-snap port, and the ability to charge both on and off the bike.

A key innovation that marks a shift in everyday usability: charging is via a standard USB-C cable, allowing it to be powered by a power bank, or any wall adapter with no dedicated chargers required.

In emergency situations, the battery can be charged directly from a smartphone via cable (device compatibility may vary).

My Campy App

The My Campy app, awarded the Red Dot Design Award 2024, is an integral part of the 13 Platform. Available on iPhone and Android, it is the gateway to all groupset functionalities: customization, updates, diagnostics, and integration with cycling computers.

Pas Normal Studios Escapism SS26

Built for Hybrid-Surfaces

Gravel riding has changed. What began as a culture of overnight adventures and unhurried exploration has quietly, steadily become faster, more technical, more demanding, and more competitive. Pas Normal Studios has been watching. The SS26 Escapism collection is the answer.

Escapism reinvented

Developed with PAS Racing who also feature in the campaign, the new Escapism collection is a ground-up reinvention. Every piece a new product development, every decision made with performance at the centre. This is not a refresh. It’s a relaunch of the Escapism name for the discipline it was always moving towards: hybrid-surface riding, where terrain changes beneath you and the only constant is the need to keep moving.

The collection opens with a colour palette drawn directly from the landscape – light olive, stone brown, black, dark red. Colors that belong outside, that don’t announce themselves. Paired with structured fabrics carrying a dry, matte hand feel, the garments move efficiently across varied terrain without fuss or friction.

Performance and function

Lightweight and abrasion-resistant, the fabrics were chosen for days that ask a lot. The fabric give breathability when the pace climbs, durability when the surface gets rough, and a considered performance profile that holds up however long the day runs.

Every pocket in the SS26 Escapism collection exists because someone needed it on a hard day off-road. Cargo pockets, arm pockets, and an externally attached trash pocket handle the practical load without compromising fit or movement. Hydration-ready options mean you can push further without compromise, whether that’s a fast gravel race or an all-day exploration that turns into something more.

The range

SS26 Escapism launches with a full range of men’s and women’s styles:

Hutchinson Gravel Range

Road tech for gravel

Hutchinson, the French tyre manufacturer with over 130 years of engineering expertise, has today announced the latest evolution of its gravel lineup with the introduction of three new tires, the Touareg Race, Touareg Race GS and Caracal Race GS.

Designed to offer unmatched versatility while being capable of meeting the demands of 90% of gravel racing conditions, the expanded offering brings technology from across the Hutchinson road and gravel range to allow riders to fine-tune speed and security depending on their environment and riding style.

Touareg Race–an evolution

Designed to meet the demands of elite gravel racing, the Touareg Race brings the innovative technology of the Caracal Race, the world’s fastest gravel tyre as independently verified by Bicycle Rolling Resistance, into the proven Touareg tread design.

Hand-crafted in France, it pairs Hutchinson’s latest Mach Tread 3.0 compound, delivering 25% greater rebound and 10% higher tear resistance, minimising energy loss while still withstanding the harshest conditions. Its SwiftEasy casing reduces weight and features enhanced flexibility that lowers rolling resistance, creating an efficient, race-ready tyre that weighs from just 480g.

Performance testing highlights the Touareg Race delivers a measurable increase, 35% more efficient than the previous Hardskin version. The Touareg Race DNA balances three critical performance factors: low rolling resistance, controlled casing deformation for stability and confident grip for aggressive racing.

For riders seeking a versatile setup, pairing a Touareg Race front tyre with a Caracal Race rear delivers the performance needed for 90% of gravel racing conditions. The Touareg Race provides grip and precise control at the front. At the rear, the Caracal Race, independently recognised as one of the fastest gravel tyres available, maximises speed and efficiency.

The Touareg Race is available in 40, 45 and 50mm sizes.

Martin Chuchu, Hutchinson Product Manager, sez: Gravel racing has evolved into a discipline defined by pure performance, data and marginal gains. At Hutchinson, we recognised that no single tyre could meet the demands of every modern gravel race. With the Caracal Race established as our fastest gravel tyre, we developed the Touareg Race to complete the system.

Gridskin technology

With over a century of tyre innovation, Hutchinson continues to advance the tire industry with GridSkin. This tech is a proven reinforcement technology already used across its road range, now introduced for the first time in their performance gravel race tires.

The GridSkin knitted mesh reinforcement layer provides targeted protection to the tyre sidewall. It isolates cut and tear damage and helps prevent race-ending punctures without minimal impact on rolling resistance or weight.

Designed to be selected as a high performance option on rougher, rockier conditions where durability is as important as speed, GridSkin technology will be available on the Touareg Race GS and Caracal Race GS, delivering enhanced protection when riders need it most.

The Touareg Race GS and Caracal Race GS are available in 40, 45 and 50mm sizes.

Modern, wider profiles

Acknowledging the trend towards higher-volume tyres, Hutchinson has developed 50mm width versions across the range of new tyres, specifically designed to meet and exceed the demands of modern gravel racers. This expansion also includes the ultra-fast Caracal Race, which will be available in a 50mm version for the first time.

All of Hutchinson’s performance gravel tyres are tubeless-ready, designed for compatibility with today’s wider internal rim widths, and available now through Hutchinson dealers worldwide.

Fizik TONES

A seasonal approach to color

Fizik launches TONES, a new annual collection that brings a fresh look to its core product range.

Built around a one-off seasonal palette, TONES connects selected shoes, helmets, and accessories through a shared visual identity. The collection offers riders a simple way to introduce color into their on-bike outfits.

At its core, TONES reflects a shift away from safe, long-life cycling colourways towards something more responsive and bold. Fizik’s designers will take inspiration from subjects like flora, weather, music, landscapes and more for these collections. Resulting in a fresh palette that feels current, without losing the minimalist aesthetic that defines Fizik.

Aurora

This year’s TONE’S collection is “Aurora”, a name rooted in the Latin word for dawn and the Roman goddess of sunrise. Aurora represents the moments where light and the atmosphere. They align to create a fleeting, unique color scheme made up of soft pinks and purples. The team at Fizik felt that its connection to the dawning of the new day made it a logical place to begin the TONES project.

Like the sunrise itself, Aurora and future TONE’s releases are designed to be enjoyed in the moment. Each release is limited to a single year. As inspirations change, so does the tone. Fizik will retire colors at the end of the year to make way for the next iteration. The result is a collection that feels timely and considered, while remaining closely tied to the rhythm of riding throughout the year.

Rather than replacing any classic colourways, TONES sits alongside them on an annual rolling basis. Riders can opt for a full, coordinated look or introduce a single piece from the collection as a standout point of contrast.

George Huzford, Fizik Senior Marketing Manager, sez: “TONES came from a simple idea: cycling is constantly changing both in terms of where and how we ride, so why should colour be fixed as well?. TONES will give fans of fizik and those new to the brand the option to bring a bit more personality into their outfits without moving away from the core products they already know and love.”

Helmets in the TONES collection:

  • Kudo
  • Kudo Aero
  • Kassis
  • Kyros

Footwear in the TONES collection:

  • Hydra
  • Powerstrap
  • Vega
  • Lyra
  • Proxy
  • Ferox 2

Felt Breed

Built to compete

FELT Bicycles have launched the all-new Breed, a gravel racing bike developed for riders who line up to compete, not just explore. Designed and engineered at Felt’s headquarters in Barcelona, the Breed redefines what a fast gravel bike should feel like: aero, super light, precise, and efficient in all kinds of race conditions.

The Breed is not an adaptation of a road or adventure bike. It is a purpose‑built gravel racing platform, developed for modern competition where speed, control, and durability must coexist at the highest level. The previous Breed generation launched in 2022 was already setting benchmarks, introducing solutions that later became category standards such as oversized tire clearance, multiple integrated bottle mounts or a race‑focused geometry. This racing legacy, proven over the years by consistent podium finishes in the main international gravel races, truly represents the DNA of the new Felt Breed.

Weight Reduction

With a frame weighing 950g in size 54, the Breed FRD achieves a benchmarking overall weight of 7,037 kg. This represents a 22.8% weight reduction vs. the previous equivalent Breed model.

Felt offers the Breed in two dedicated carbon layups, tuned to balance weight, stiffness, and durability across the various builds.

Aero

The Breed delivers a significant 10.5% drag improvement compared to the previous generation. This was mainly achieved by a new frame optimized for gravel‑specific, a redesigned fork managing airflow around wider tires, and FELT’s ultralight carbon one‑piece cockpit helping to reduce total aerodynamic drag.

Fit & Geometry

BREED’s aero road-inspired geometry is designed for speed and control. A low bottom bracket drop increases cornering confidence, while a longer front end and balanced trail deliver high‑speed stability. Felt tuned the rear triangle stiffness for immediate feedback under sprinting and hard accelerations, critical in gravel racing where positioning into sectors or corners can decide the outcome.

Clearance for modern wide gravel tires allows riders to choose up to 54 mm in the front and 52mm in the rear. Felt engineered the frame to accommodate multiple race configurations, including up to four bottle mounts, optional suspension fork and full dropper post compatibility.

Geometry and ride characteristics remain consistent across six frame sizes, ensuring every rider benefits from the same handling balance and race‑ready fit.

Specifications

The Breed is available in four complete builds, engineered around two distinct carbon platforms.

The FRD and Pro models use Felt’s highest‑grade carbon, delivering maximum structural efficiency, very low weight, and precise handling for elite and high‑level competitive racing.

The Expert and Race builds feature a proven FELT carbon construction, slightly heavier but optimized for durability and stiffness while maintaining the same race‑focused geometry.

Felt has spec’d all models with SRAM groupsets. Felt also offers an FRD framekit option.

Availability

The BREED will be available globally through FELT Authorized Dealers starting May 2026. Pricing has not yet been disclosed. For full details, head over to felt.com.
