When it comes to upgrading your cockpit, handlebars are often overlooked—but they’re one of the few components that directly affect comfort, control, aerodynamics, and fit on every ride. With the Kreuza Apex carbon fibre integrated handlebar, Elite Wheels steps into the integrated cockpit category with a bar designed to deliver aero efficiency, stiffness, and clean integration in one package.

My guess is that as of this writing, you’ve probably never heard of the Kreuza brand, so you can thank me later. As part of Elite & Evolve – sister companies making high quality wheels and framesets in China – Kreuza is part of a groundswell of high end Chinese manufacturing that is poised to take over the cycling market.
We used to be suspicious of Chinese-made products here in North America because in the old days they cost less because things were cheaply made. But over the past 20 years, China has built itself into a manufacturing powerhouse with the best factories, expertise at a global level, and a workforce far less costly than here in North America. So after years of making products for Western brands, many of these same factories are now using their production advantage to build their own bike gear.

The result is top quality products at prices well below what western brands charge. I wanted to see for myself, so I started by reviewing two sets of Elite Wheels – and have been very impressed by the quality and pricing. I have a project bike featuring an Evolve Cima frameset coming – but first I’m looking at these handlebars.
First Impressions: Modern Aero Integration
Out of the box, the Kreuza Apex looks every bit like a modern race cockpit. The one-piece carbon construction blends bar and stem into a seamless unit, with fully integrated cable routing for a clean front end.
Finish quality is excellent, with several well thought out design features that prove this ain’t no cookie cutter bar.
The flattened aero tops are wide and slightly ergonomic, designed to reduce drag while still offering a stable hand position. The transitions into the drops are smooth and refined, and the overall shape “has been aerodynamically optimized using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis, saving 4.5 watts over a traditional round handlebar ” and reflects current pro-level trends.

Specs from Elite:
- Material: T800 Full carbon fiber construction
- Design: One-piece integrated bar/stem
- Reach: ~80mm
- Drop: ~128mm
- Flare: Subtle outward flare for stability
- Widths: Multiple options (typically 380–420mm)
- Stem lengths: Range of sizes to dial fit
- Weight: ~300–320g depending on size + mounting hardware

The tops feature dappled surface to enhance grip (and is also a flex to the high degree of production quality), and are shaped to offer better aerodynamics than a round bar.
Packaging is thoughtful too – almost no plastics to be found and lightweight yet strong cardboard is used to secure all the bits.
Carbon Evolution: From Outsourcing to Expertise
It’s worth noting how far carbon manufacturing has come—especially in China. A decade or two ago, many Western brands quietly relied on Asian factories for production, often without acknowledging it. Today, companies like Elite represent the next evolution: vertically integrated manufacturers who design, test, and produce in-house.
Modern Chinese carbon production now combines advanced layup techniques, precision molding, automated QC processes, and increasingly sophisticated engineering expertise. The result? Products that are no longer just “good value,” but genuinely competitive with those of long-established Western brands. In fact these days, the only real distinction is brand recognition and price, since almost every well-known Western brand is made in the same factories in China, but costs the buyer a lot more.

Internal cable routing features large, well positioned entry channels to ease setup, and there’s lots of room to position the levers, with measured markings, and grippy surface – basic stuff, but often overlooked by other brands.
Underneath are capped exit points in case you want to run traditional cable routing, plus bolts for your computer and camera mount.
On the Road: Aero Meets Ergonomics
Bottom line here is I’ve been impressed from the first ride – no lag time in getting used to the shape or feel – just solid feeling control and stylish looking speed.
The tops are broad and slightly curved away from the rider, making them comfortable for all “on-top” riding. The platform is wide enough to disperse road vibes across a larger surface area, which works to increase comfort, and gives a nice big area to grip.
Shape-wise, the moderate 128mm drop and compact reach make it easy to stay engaged in the aero position, whether leading the bunch or descending at speed.
Although this picture doesn’t show it – there’s a slight flare to allow for better wrist clearance and control when riding in the drops.

Integration & Setup: Built for Modern Bikes
The Kreuza Apex is clearly designed for today’s fully integrated framesets.
- Internal routing supports fully hidden cables and hoses
- Compatible with modern headset systems
- Clean interface between bar and frame
Like all one-piece cockpits, fit is best dialed in before installation—but once set, the result is a pro-level clean front end with real aerodynamic benefits. I spent a fair amount of time measuring the steerer tube length before committing to a cut – and given the complexity of modern internal cable routing, this has to be done before mounting.

Ride Feel: Stiff, Direct, Predictable
Out on the road, the bar delivers a stiff and responsive feel.
- No noticeable flex when sprinting
- Direct steering input in fast corners
- Solid platform for climbing efforts
Despite the stiffness, the bar doesn’t feel harsh. Paired with quality bar tape it strikes a good balance between performance and comfort.
Details That Matter
Elite has clearly paid attention to the small things:
- Clean cable entry/exit points
- Ergonomic shaping on tops and drops
- Subtle branding for a premium look
- Geometry that suits both racing and endurance riders
It’s nice to see that while this was developed in the wind tunnel, it’s also built for real-world riding.
The Takeaway
The Kreuza Apex delivers what modern riders expect from an integrated cockpit:
- Aero efficiency
- Clean integration
- Solid stiffness
- Usable ergonomics
And importantly—it does so at a price point that undercuts many of the big-name brands.
PEZ Says
Integrated cockpits have been viewed as an expensive luxury – sure they look cool – and I’ll admit that hydraulic set-up and cable routing means paying a professional to do it right – adding to the cost.
Comparing the retail landscape – I saw more well-known brands offering integrated bars at over $500USD – which in many cases looked like less well thought-out designs.
The good news for consumers is that top-level quality and design are within price reach with the Kreuza Apex – it’s fast, functional, and comfortable.
A smart upgrade for riders building a modern aero road bike without paying premium-brand pricing.
