Pas Normal Studios Mechanism Collection: I thought Pas Normal Studios would send me their summer Mechanism offerings for 2026, but I’m glad to say they threw in a light weight long sleeve jersey for those ‘nippy’ mornings. Top quality and stylish kit from those design gurus in Copenhagen.
Storm clouds on the horizon – No problem
Alastair Hamilton PEZ sez:
Spring and Autumn (fall) are my favourite times of the year, not too hot and it shouldn’t be cold, although that can’t be guaranteed. My other reason is that the cycle clothing companies release their new kit for the summer. Pas Normal Studios sent me their new for 2026 ‘Mechanism’ collection to try out before the hot weather hits the east coast of Spain. The summer temperatures are taking their time to come this year, so I’m glad they added a long sleeve jersey in the bundle for the review.

Ready for spring, summer or fall
Men’s Mechanism Short Sleeve Jersey
The PNS Mechanism short sleeve jersey for 2026 has all those little features I look for in a cycling jersey: It has a proper collar, zip pouches top and bottom, cuffs with grippers on the sleeves and round the waist and an extra rear zip pocket for a card and/or cash. The Dark Mauve is one of the new designs with a shaded effect that is a great look. The material used is lightweight and very breathable, great for summer riding.

Great new colour and design
Starting at the top; the collar isn’t too high, but it is there and not a scooped neck. For me it’s a better look and can protect the back of your neck from the sun. As I said there are zip pouches at the top and bottom of the full length YKK zip. The sleeve material is part of the back of the jersey and comes over the shoulder to join the collar and the front of the jersey and there are side panels, which all helps to give a great fit.

Bring on the sun!
The three rear pockets have a hem along the top of the openings to make sure you never miss your pocket and there is that special little zip pocket for extras. Below the pockets there is a gripper band to hold everything in place. There is a similar gripper band round the sleeves for the same reason. There is a ‘Pas Normal Studios’ logo on the left of the chest, ‘PNS International Cycling Club’ on the rear and ‘Mechanism’ on the inside of the collar, all very subtle. I also noticed a small black tab on the left seam at the back, this turns out to be “dark purple and called a ’Tab Label’ – it’s our signature and goes across all products,” thanks to Mel at PNS for clearing that up. And yes there is one on all the clothing.

Three, plus zip pocket
The Mechanism short sleeve jersey feels and looks great. The fit is really good too, figure hugging for a race feel and will be cool when the temperatures go up. The short sleeve jersey is available in seven sizes and eighteen different colours. So there is a jersey for everyone.

Nice fit and that extra pocket
Men’s Mechanism Long Sleeve Jersey
The temperature here on the Spanish coast is still not as warm as it usually is, so some days a long sleeve jersey is a must for an early start. PNS sent me a Mechanism long sleeve jersey in Dark Moss for the winter 2024/25 and an Essential long sleeve jersey in Light Brown for the 2025/26 winter, I’ve been enjoying using both, but it’s always nice to get new kit.

Soft long sleeve comfort
The Mechanism collection is more of a ‘race cut’ than the Essential kit, also the material is a little thinner, perfect for this time of year and Autumn. There is a good size collar which is double thickness, as is the cuffs on the sleeves. The full YKK zip has pouches top and bottom and there are three rear pockets and a small zip pocket. Bellow the pockets there is a mesh strip for ventilation and an elastic strip to hold the pockets in place with rubberised ‘Road to Nowhere’ for some grip. There is a good trim on the top edge of the pockets to make it easy to get your hand in. The Mechanism jersey has side panels for that race fit. There is a small ‘Pas Normal Studios’ logo on the front and a larger one on the back and of course that dark purple tab.

Just right for a cold start
The first thing you notice with the Mechanism long sleeve jersey is how soft the material is. It has a light fleecy feel which is warm and very comfortable, also the cut of the elasticated material helps to give that race fit, nothing loose or flapping, tight but not constricting just what you need when the weather conditions are not warm.

A light fleece material
Men’s Mechanism Bibs
The Pas Normal Studios bibs are among the best I have tried. If you have read my previous clothing reviews you’ll know I always say your shorts, more particularly the chamois/seat pad, is the most important part of your kit. Assos, Castelli, Santini and Pas Normal Studios are for me the best I have ridden. Yes there are others and you probably have your favourites, but these four are mine and that is mainly due to the quality of the chamois.

Wide straps, mesh back and grippers
We’ll get to the chamois in a bit, but let’s start with the bib: The straps are wide, strong and very soft to the touch, they are also very elasticated and perforated for ventilation. There is a mesh section between the rear straps which helps to hold them in place, the mesh is also at the front where the straps attach to the shorts. There is also a white trim on the top edges.

Matching shorts and socks
The front of the shorts is at a good hight; not so low that your stomach shows bellow your jersey and above the shorts, and low enough for a (men’s) call of nature. The multi-panel shorts are made up of ten sections for a great body fit. There are front, side and a lumbar panels made of a compressive, but all-direction flexible material, joined together with very strong stitching. The material feels more substantial than some lycra and so it gives an amount of support, but with ventilation. Around the leg there is a slightly thicker band with a criss-cross design of gripper rubber to hold everything in place. There is the ‘PNS’ logo on each leg and ‘Mechanism’ across the back.

One of the best chamois
Right, now to that chamois/seat pad: As I said before, the PNS chamois suits me and I would put it amongst the very best available. For the last couple of years I’ve been riding 3D printed saddles and you do feel that pattern if there is not enough padding in your shorts. The pad feels like it has four layers, thinner at the edges and thicker where it is needed at the sit bones and underneath between the legs. There is less padding in the centre for the prostate area, like on most saddles, and the pad extends forward to protect the ‘family jewels’ and is thinner on the inside of the thighs. The PNS bib shorts are very well made and stylish, they are available in eleven colours and seven sizes.

Very comfortable
Men’s Sleeveless Base Layer
A base layer is a must for the spring, and personally I always wear one in the summer. In the spring (or Autumn/fall) you can get caught out in the shade or in the hills and an undervest will help to keep you warm. In the summer you might not want that extra layer, but a vest helps to take the sweat away from the surface of your skin so you will feel more comfortable. Admittedly the materials used for summer jerseys now makes a base layer less necessary.

Lightweight undervest
I had one of these base layers last year and it worked very well. I rode with the Mechanism short sleeve jersey and base layer in temperatures of between 15ºC and mid 30ºC and all was good. The PNS base layer is a tight fit, as it should be, and is very stretchy to fit all body shapes. An open weave material with strong double stitching on all the joints, hems and edging. There is trim round the neck, arm holes and at the bottom round the waist, the material is doubled over. The body is made up of two side panels and a front and back panel for a better fit and it is longer at the back. There is a ‘Pas Normal Studios’ logo on the chest and ‘Road to Nowhere’ down the spine.

A neat fit
Race Socks
The PNS ‘Race Socks’ are ultra comfortable, made with a very soft but elastic material that fits like a glove, well sock. There is a double cuff which holds the socks up without being too tight. The leg part is a tight weave, but the foot has a ribbed section in the middle and more open weave on the top of the foot.

Tight enough to stay up without constriction
The heel is shaped to fit and the toe box is left and right specific and the socks are marked ‘L’ and ‘R’, there is also the ‘PNS’ logo on the outside of each sock, so you should know which foot to put them on. They fit well without any wrinkles or folds to annoy your feet inside your shoes. The Race Socks come in fours sizes and six colours. The hight is much the same as many other socks at the moment, a bit high for an ‘old school’ rider like me, but such is life!

Colours and comfort
New Logo Bidon
Last year I had the PNS Race Bidon, which has a normal push-pull valve system. The Logo Bidon has a similar translucent bottle, but the valve is completely different. There is a twist lock top that when opened allows a membrane to deliver a mouthful of liquid when you squeeze the soft, recycled plastic bottle. A very different system that works well. It’s very light and comes in nine different colours.

Twist lock with a membrane system
How does the kit feel out on the road?
When reviewing top end cycle clothing, it’s very difficult to find fault, but I always try. The Pas Normal Studios kit has everything I look for: A very good chamois, grippers on the legs, sleeves and waist on the jersey and bibs, quality zips, the extra zip pocket, strong stitching, comfortable materials, colours, cut and style. On the road everything is good. The long sleeve jersey is good on its own, on ‘fresh’ days, or over the jersey if really cold. The jersey and bibs fit well and perform as expected. The chamois is one of the best and it has never disappointed since the first time I tried it four or five years ago. The base layer does what it should and is a neat fit. OK, the socks: My choice would be white and shorter, but that’s me just showing my age and how long I’ve been cycling. The PNS race socks are very good and it’s what riders want at the moment. The price of PNS kit is now fairly average, but the quality is there along with the style and design. I can’t honestly fault it.
Very comfortable
