Fizik Lyra Shoes Reviewed

Fizik Lyra 2026

Fizik Lyra Shoes: The first thing you notice about the ‘fizik Lyra’ road shoes is how ridiculously white they are – very ‘bling’. But while they look the part, the real test is whether they are the ride you want: A comfortable stiffness, a secure fit, and a good cleat setup. In this review our man in Spain, Alastair Hamilton, breaks down how the Lyra shoes perform as well as how good they look.

Yes, blue socks

Alastair Hamilton PEZ sez:
The first impression is how white the fizik Lyra shoes are, really ‘bling’. Yes, I know I always say shoes, saddles, handlebar tape and socks should always be white, these are exceptionally white. Okay looks aren’t everything, the shoes also have to fit and have a comfortable stiffness. I’ve tested a lot of shoes over the last few years and my favourite and daily used cycling shoes have been the Vento Stabilita by fizik. They are white, but they have a sole system where the strap comes across the instep and they suit me and my particular feet. So my question is ‘can I ride the Lyra?’ with its ‘normal’ sole.

Now they are white!

Starting with the sole
On many shoes these days there is adjustment of the plate on the sole, but where the shoe plate bolts into the Lyra, there is no movement. This shouldn’t be a problem as I found the bolt holes are placed fairly far back on the shoe, unlike some shoes I’ve tested recently. After I had set up the Look plates, there was still room for more movement backwards on the shoe, whereas with other shoes I was at the maximum possible. The sole has been given a stiffness score of 8 by fizik, it isn’t fully carbon but a composite. This gives a little flex and if you are not racing that could mean more comfort. I certainly didn’t notice any power loss.

Protectors for the sole

There are two small air vents pointing forward and two larger ones for the air to exit the sole. Two large rubber pads on the heel and one at the toe that is underneath for walking and it also protects the front of the foot. The insole is fairly thin and has very little arch support, but there is a pad in the middle of the foot and air holes at the toes. If you look at the sole of the Lyra it is fairly level, just rising up slightly from the shoe plate to the heel. If you need a lot of arch support you probably already have your personal insoles, otherwise you might need more support.

Material weave top

The uppers
The upper part of the shoe is mostly made of a weave material which is breathable and will give ventilation to your feet. On the top and inside rear is made of a leather feel like material, which is stitched around the top and the two Boa Li2 dials. A padded tongue is also ventilated and doesn’t come too high and is made up of three flaps that don’t cut into your ankle. I don’t have to say anything about the BOA’s, they really are the best system available. The cables cross nearly all of the top of your foot, you don’t feel anything due to the padded tongue. The toe box is larger than other shoes I’ve ridden, this allows you to wriggle your toes and there is no squashed feeling.

Inside
The interior is soft with extra padding round the top, this holds your foot in place. Also there is a high heel with achilles protection, but there is no grippers to hold your heel, but I didn’t notice my foot lifting out of the shoe. There is strengthening round the heel and round the toe. There is a ‘fi’zi:k’ strip stitched down the heel and a ‘fi’zi:k’ logo on the outer edge at your small toe, so nice and subtle. The pair I have (41.5) weigh in at 280gr, so not the lightest, but certainly not heavy. The Lyra is available in sizes 36 to 48, mostly with half sizes. You don’t have to wear white (although you should), as they are also available in black and lavender/mint-green.

So how do they ride?
I wasn’t sure if I would ‘get on’ with the Lyra, but they are comfortable and possibly the sole does give a little. The Vento Stabilita has more arch support, but I think an insole with more arch support will be the answer. Remember I do have a particular foot problem that most ‘normal’ people don’t have, you maybe don’t need anything. I would say the Lyra is a mid priced shoe, not cheep, but certainly not expensive. The BOA’s are perfect and there is enough padding where you need it. The toe box is definitely more spacious and gives extra comfort. Out on the road they performed well and looked great, you just need to stop looking down at them.

A Natural, New Shape
Over the past few years, bike geometry and riding positions have changed. This has led to a knock-on impact for the contact points between riders and their bikes. Fizik’s latest shoes, including Lyra, have responded to this shift with an updated anatomical shape, allowing riders to more easily achieve modern riding positions in comfort.

A wider, rounder forefoot and a lower-drop profile give the shoe a more natural feel under load. With Lyra and all of their other recent shoe iterations, Fizik has progressively updated its shoe lasts, moving toward wider toe boxes, rounder forefoot profiles and lower-drop platforms that better align with the way riders position themselves on modern bikes.

The updated platform also leaves room for riders who prefer a slightly rearward cleat position, a setup increasingly favoured for improved pedalling stability and efficiency on longer efforts.

Brand Manager, Alex Locatelli, said; “With Lyra, we wanted to create a road shoe that truly reflects how modern riders pedal today. By rethinking the anatomical shape and expanding the toe box, we focused on delivering a more natural fit that enhances both comfort and efficiency on the bike. Lyra brings key elements from our top-tier models into a versatile, everyday performance shoe designed for long rides, fast training, and racing alike.”
